CHAIRMAN'S NOTE
October - November 2007
Team Tibet: We have had a great response to the start of our campaign "Team Tibet at the Olympics" with many of you ordering the Team Tibet t shirts from the advertisement that I sent through email. An order form is enclosed in this newsletter as well. In the August-September newsletter I mentioned my tennis team which I had renamed "Team Tibet" at our recent tournament at my club. We all wore the Team Tibet t shirts which I brought back from the Tibet Support Group Conference in Brussels in May. We won the socially serious tournament, which ran for 10 weeks. Team Tibet will appear on the trophy at the club. I hope to have a photo of the team and the trophy for the next newsletter. (The trophy is currently being engraved at the time of writing.). While on the subject of Team Tibet, please give serious thought in participating in the Freedom Torch Relay, which looks likely to be in New Zealand early next year. I will keep you informed by email as things eventuate.
Annual General Meetings: The AGM of the Auckland branch will be held on Tuesday 20th November at All Saints Church Hall in Ponsonby. One of our members will be showing his copy of movie by American Lowell Thomas, called "High Adventure in Tibet", which was shot in Tibet in 1949, when I was a young boy there. I have vague memories of these Westerners coming to my monastery, Sera, to photograph one of the ceremonies. You will be able to see Tibet how it was before the Chinese invasion. Not to be missed.
Congressional Gold Medal: His Holiness will be given the Congressional Gold Medal by United States President George Bush in the Capitol grounds in Washington on 17th October. His Holiness has been awarded this prestigious honour for his untiring work for a peaceful solution to the Tibet situation. May he live long to see the fruits of his labours and lead his people back to our homeland TIBET
Best Wishes and Tashi Delek,
Thuten Kesang
National Chairman
